Almost a year has passed since the COVID-19 pandemic started, which has forced all sectors to devise innovative ways of continuing their operations.

Educational institutions are among those who had no choice but to come up with completely new ways of providing educations to students, who are one of the most vulnerable sectors in this pandemic.

For GT Northeast Academy (GTNA), adhering to their vision-mission of providing solid basic education, promoting the holistic formation of youth has helped them in the development of their new alternative modes of learning.

“In GT Northeast Academy, our remote learning is a blend of real-time, flexible, technological, and non-technological options that fit best for our students, families and teachers’ synchronous and asynchronous learning,” GTNA CEO Engr. Leonora Salvane explained.

The hard work and dedication of its faculty members have helped GTNA in carrying out their remote learning program for the past school year 2020-2021, despite challenges in the first months of its implementation.

Consider the past school year as a test run of GTNA’s remote learning program.

While there may have been birthing pains in the first months of its implementation, the program has definitely improved through constant consultations with stakeholders.

“With the supportive and understanding parents and guardians, who became our partners in the teaching-learning under the remote learning program, and through the series of meetings and consultations, GTNA was able to improve its services,” Salvane said.

Now, for the upcoming school year, GTNA is excited to offer its better and improved remote learning program to their students which include Nursery 1 to Kindergarten, Grade School, Junior High School and Senior High School.

Through its remote learning program, GTNA aims to ensure that all students have the opportunity to continue learning that focuses on critical standards for success in the coming school year.

Parents will have the freedom to choose their type of program depending on their situation.

The fist option is the School-Provided Instructional Materials with Teacher Support. This option is recommended for working parents of early childhood and elementary students wherein nobody from the family can help or monitor the student in attending online classes.

In this option, the school will provide instructional materials weekly and the parent or guardian will pick it up in school or have it delivered to their doorstep. The parent or guardian will then inform the school of his/her day off or available schedule, between Monday to Saturday, in order to conduct a special online class.

By this time, the teacher will be able to assist and tackle the topics for the whole week to the student and the parent.

The second option is the Teacher-Led Instruction Online with Teacher Support and Support Program which is a mix of both online and offline teaching.

The third option is the Teacher-Led Full Digital Instruction with Teacher Support and Support Programs.

In the second and third options, teachers will use both instruction methods in order to deliver what is intended and appropriate for the students. It is essential to use varied techniques to ensure success of the delivery of instruction.

In addition, GTNA will continue to provide guidance and support through the following programs: (1) Grab and Go Food Packs (early childhood pupils only), (2) Counseling and Health Consultation, (3) Technical Support, and (4) Advisory Checkup.

“The transition to remote learning will not be simple and easy. This will be a complicated time for families and the transition will be a challenge. As we all adjust to the new normal, the best response we can do is to face it with adaptability, patience, and partnership,” Salvane shared.
