As the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) marked this year’s General Membership Meeting (GMM) Turn-over Ceremony, Induction of Board of Trustees (BOT) and Members with a simple virtual ceremony, its new officers and members took their oath and acknowledged the challenges that the organization will face and their roles in abiding by the mandate of the Chamber on Monday via Zoom.

Guest of honor and keynote speaker, Regional Development Council in Central Visayas (RDC 7) chairman Kenneth Cobonpue encouraged, not only CCCI past President Virgilio Espeleta and current President Felix Taguiam but also the BOT and Officers, to be more active in serving a very important role of leading the Cebuano business sector on the road to recovery.

“On my part, I assure you that as long as I am here, we will be your partners in business and in government,” said Cobonpue as he urged everyone to heal as one and to bring Cebu to its rightful place as a social and economic model for the whole country.

Espeleta expressed that no amount of delay would obstruct him from addressing once more the stalwart and resilient general membership of the Cebu Chamber since the chance was hindered due to the outset of the pandemic.

In his speech, ConGen Espeleta emphasized on his very own version of VUCA to mean Value-Creation, Unity of Aspiration and Purpose, Convergence and Collaboration, Advocacy on “Prosperity for All” through Inclusive Growth, which formed part of the year-long strategic thrusts of the CCCI.

During his presidency, some of the milestones include the continuing Kapatid Mentor Me (KMME) program, survey results of the “Shared Ambition: Driving Cebu Competitiveness to the Next Level” in mid-2019 which anchored the Chamber’s Power Advocacy, and the foundation for the Cebu Investment Development Concierge Center (CIDCC).

President Taguiam in turn delivered his inaugural speech which highlighted his advocacies and achievements that paved way to his legacy and being tagged as the award-winning “COVID President”.

“Our resilience has been tested through lockdowns, quarantines and restrictions; however, for Cebu to remain competitive and expand our potential for sustainable growth and prosperity, we must reengage with the economy through our bold agenda,” said Taguiam.

With his leadership, CCCI gained recognition not only locally but internationally as the Chamber bagged different awards through its Solidarity Response Fund and other initiatives.

To close his speech, Taguiam called upon everyone to unite around a shared advocacy for a common cause of growth and opportunity towards the economic recovery and brighter future of the business community in Cebu.
