Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and cycling enthusiasts from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) initiated the “Bike-to-Work” ride earlier today, February 11.

The cycling activity aims to promote Ilocos Norte, particularly in the City of Laoag, as a safe and bike-friendly space as well as to encourage PGIN employees to embrace environment-friendly and convenient alternative transportation, especially in the new normal.

Organized by the Ilocos Norte Sports and Development Office, the cycling course started at the Ilocano Migrants Monument and ended at the Provincial Capitol Building. Following that, the Provincial Human Resource Management Office led the participants in a Zumba workout.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region I, in collaboration with PGIN, recently launched the Karingking Serrek bike trails in Solsona, one of the twelve bikeways validated by the DOT in the province, in an effort to boost cycling tourism.

Governor Manotoc has blended his passion for sports and health into his public service by promoting an active lifestyle, physical fitness, and overall well-being among the Ilocanos through his initiatives. As part of this, he commits to improving the safe cycling infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of bikers in the province.— Blessing Angel V. Agliam, PGIN-CMO
