The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), together with AFOS Foundation for Entrepreneurial Development Cooperation (AFOS), kicks-off its Dual Education & Training (DET) Pilot Program for the Seafood Processing Sector with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing Ceremony between CCCI, AFOS and industry partners, Central Seafoods, Inc., Phil-Union Frozen Foods, Inc., Siargao’s Bounty and Seafoods Corporation and Philippine Association of Crabs Processors Inc., and with the academe partners, University of Cebu and Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology on May 30 during the CCCI General Membership Meeting (GMM) at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

The MOA signing puts the institutional commitments within a framework of clearly defined roles and responsibilities for the partner industries, academe, CCCI, and AFOS based on mutual understanding in implementing the DET Pilot Program.

In preparation for the program implementation, a screening and selection of learners was conducted at the University of Cebu (UC) Lapu-Lapu and Mactan (UCLM) on May 26 and the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) Campus on May 27.

Tagged as a crucial part in identifying committed and receptive learners for the DET Pilot Program, potential learners underwent a screening process through interviews conducted by the HRs and Operations Head from Central Seafoods, Inc. and Siargao’s Bounty and Seafoods, Corp.

DET is a type of training that incorporates both theoretical and practical instruction. The term “dual” refers to a training taking place in two locations: the company and the school.

The pilot program will run for 6 months where learners will undergo in-school training and in-company training. The program exemplifies a strong partnership between the company and the school, with the goal of benefiting both parties as well as the student. The program aims to produce trainees/graduates as Seafood Production Worker and Quality Inspector.
