A total of 1,200 racers roared their way through the refreshing routes safely mapped out within one of Cebu’s beautiful tourism destinations, the Cebu Safari and Adventure Park in Carmen, Cebu for the GO Race Cebu: The Great Safari Experience on July 30, 2022.
GO Race Cebu, a uniquely exciting trail race, was organized by the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) headed by Ms. Brigitte Carmel Lim, CBM 2022 Overall Chairperson; Mr. Eduard Loop, COO of Cebu Safari and Adventure Park; and Mr. Carlo Sumayang, a Spartan SGX and World OCR coach and the race director. It was organized with CBM 2022’s champions in partnership, including Cebu Safari and Adventure Park and the Department of Tourism Central Visayas.
Expectant crowds of racers listened to the inspiring messages of gratitude and welcome from Mr. Loop and Ms. Lim and to the race briefing provided by Mr. Sumayang. They then actively pumped up their adrenaline in a 15-minute warm-up exercise before the early morning kickstart of the 12K obstacle race, 6K obstacle race, and 3K fun run, which was facilitated by Queene Rose Dionaldo, Founder and Managing Director of BizHero.ph.
Participants of the obstacle races went through 15 types of physical hurdles, including cord crawl, hoist, hand release pushup, slingshot, tire over run, sandbag carry, burpees, squat jump, tire overhead run, memory wall, tire flip, jerry can carry, wire crawl, tire drag, and memory wall recitation.
Mark Mahinay (36 minutes and 31 seconds) topped the male category for the 6K obstacle race, followed by Rinmarch Gonzaga (38 minutes and 41 seconds) and Justin Pesons (41 minutes and 48 seconds). In the female category, Asia Paraase (41 minutes and 48 seconds) clocked in first, followed by Cherry Andrin (44 minutes) and Julie Baldevarona (57 minutes and 22 seconds).
For the 12K obstacle race, Sonny Amor (one hour and 23 minutes) took the first spot, followed by Richard Buar (one hour and 24 minutes), and Jascint Paul Almirol (one hour and 24 seconds). In the female category, Dominique Wendel Enerio (one hour and 23 minutes) came in first, followed by Lizane Abella (one hour and 29 minutes) and Andrea Gaurana (one hour and 33 minutes).
All finishers got a race singlet, a medal, and goodies from GO Race Cebu’s event partners. The 12K obstacle race winners received P10,000 (first place), P8,000 (second), and P5,000 (third), while the 6K obstacle race winners received P5,000 (first), P3,000 (second), P2,000 (third).
The epic event was a triple exhilarating treat for the racers — an experiential experience for family and friends, an opportunity to test one’s fitness and endurance, and an immersive trip to appreciate the delightful sights and sounds that the Cebu Safari and Adventure Park offers.
