The Philippine Terno Gala returned to Cebu City for its third iteration last June 28, 2025, once again gracing the Pacific Grand Ballroom at Waterfront Hotel & Casino. The event, a cornerstone of the nation’s fashion calendar, beautifully weaves together the rich tapestry of Filipino identity through its iconic national dress. Acclaimed couturier Cary Santiago led the gala, presenting his own bold and contemporary interpretations of the terno. He was joined by five esteemed designers who showcased their unique collections: Cebu’s own Edwin Ao, Jun Escario, and Protacio Empaces, alongside Manila-based designers Jojie Lloren and Joey Samson. The event was co-presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and supported by the Cebu City Tourism Commission, under the guidance of City Councilor Joy Pesquera, with direction by Junjet Primor.

A highlight of the evening was the diverse design vision presented by each participating couturier. Protacio Empaces captivated attendees with masterful embroideries, drawing inspiration from Filipino craftsmanship reminiscent of design luminaries such as Ramon Valera and Salvacion Lim. Jun Escario unveiled a “cosmopolitan Filipiniana” collection featuring sophisticated silk-and-piña gowns and refined baro’t saya pantsuits with cape sleeves in muted taupe tones. Edwin Ao showcased innovative layered sartorial architecture with bold white and red pieces. Manila-based designers Joey Samson and Jojie Lloren introduced experimental Filipino-menswear fusion and emotive storytelling through fashion, exemplified by Samson’s sophisticated tuxedo-terno blend and Lloren’s poignant tribute to his late mother. Prominent women like Bea Zobel de Ayala Jr., Alice Eduardo, Mariquita Yeung, Maybelle Padillo, Yedda Romualdez, Jen Villoria, and Marylou Ngo Ang served as muses and sponsors of the event.
