Governor Pamela Baricuatro has expressed her full support for the upcoming Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, underscoring the Cebu Provincial Government’s commitment to promoting early detection, ensuring timely treatment, and supporting breast cancer survivors across the province.
On Tuesday, September 23, Governor Baricuatro welcomed members of the ICanServe Foundation Cebu Link, led by Mary Anne Alcordo Solomon, during a courtesy visit at the Capitol. The group, composed of breast cancer survivors and volunteers, was accompanied by Piso Public Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan and her therapy dog, Lexi, who also wore pink in a symbolic gesture of solidarity.
“Breast cancer is a serious threat to women’s health, but with awareness, early detection, and proper support systems, it is a battle we can fight and survive,” said Gov. Baricuatro. “As a woman and a public official, I am committed to pushing forward programs that protect and empower women, especially those affected by this disease.”
The visit highlighted the Capitol’s ongoing collaboration with ICanServe Foundation, Inc., a Philippine-based network of breast cancer survivors and advocates working with local government units to implement sustainable and community-based breast cancer control programs.
ICanServe’s initiatives include education on early detection, access to accurate diagnosis and treatment, as well as long-term support such as survivorship care, palliative and hospice services, and patient navigation.
Governor Baricuatro pledged to further strengthen provincial health programs by integrating more services and outreach efforts for breast cancer awareness, especially in rural communities where access remains a challenge.
As October approaches, the Capitol is preparing a series of activities in partnership with health organizations and local stakeholders to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aiming to inform, inspire, and support thousands of women in Cebu Province. (Photos: Cebu Province)
