Capitol Allocates ₱38 Million for Quake-Hit LGUs in Northern Cebu

The Cebu Provincial Government has announced the allocation of ₱38 million in financial aid to support rehabilitation efforts in 11 municipalities and one city in northern Cebu following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck the region on September 30, 2025.

In a joint press conference with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian held on October 7 in Bogo City, Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro revealed that the Provincial Government will release the aid by Friday, October 10.

Under the allocation plan:

₱3 million will be given to each of the following municipalities:

Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Tabogon, Sogod, Catmon, Tabuelan, Borbon, Santa Fe, Bantayan, and Madridejos

₱5 million will be provided to Bogo City, which sustained significant damage.

“The Province is committed to helping our local government units recover swiftly and rebuild stronger. These funds are just the beginning of our long-term support to the affected communities,” Governor Baricuatro stated.

The aid package follows a coordination meeting between provincial and local officials, including representatives from the 12 affected LGUs and national agencies. The meeting was attended by: Fourth District Congressman Sun Shimura; Fifth District Congressman Duke Frasco; Bogo City Mayor Mayel Martinez; Medellin Mayor Edwin Salimbangon; Daanbantayan Mayor Gilbert Arrabis Jr.; Tabogon Mayor Francis Salimbangon; Borbon Mayor Nico Dotillos; Sogod Mayor Moonyeen Durano-Streegan; Catmon Mayor Avis Monleon; Bantayan Mayor Alex Layese; Madridejos Mayor Romeo Villaceran; and Santa Fe Vice Mayor Lovely Cabrera.

DSWD Secretary Gatchalian expressed support for the Capitol’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of fast, coordinated response in post-disaster recovery.

The Provincial Government continues to assess damage and will coordinate with national agencies to mobilize additional assistance as needed.
