Cebu’s young grapplers delivered a remarkable performance at the 2026 National Team Selection Trials of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Philippines, held at the Ayala Circuit Makati last February 7, 2026.
Emerging as one of the tournament’s standout athletes was Sarah Lee Tio, who clinched two gold medals in the -63kg Girls (U-16) division, dominating both the Gi and No Gi categories. Her double-gold finish secured her qualification for the Philippine National Team Selection pool and solidified her status as one of the country’s most promising youth competitors.
Her brother, Stan Lee Tio, also made Cebu proud after earning the silver medal in the -56kg Boys (U-16) No Gi division. His strong performance placed him among the athletes advancing in the national selection process.
The siblings’ victories earned them spots in the roster of athletes set to represent the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Regional Championships scheduled in the second quarter of the year.
The latest achievement builds on the Tio siblings’ impressive track record. During the Batang Pinoy 2025 held last October, Sarah Lee captured two gold medals in both Gi and No Gi categories in her division. Her victories contributed significantly to Cebu City’s overall performance, helping the delegation secure ninth place in the gold medal tally.
The outstanding showing of the Tio siblings underscores Cebu’s growing strength in grassroots jiu-jitsu development, reflecting the discipline, training, and competitive spirit of its young athletes.
As they prepare to compete on the regional stage, Sarah Lee and Stan Lee carry with them not only national colors but also the pride of Cebu — determined to elevate Philippine jiu-jitsu in the international arena.
