The Reef Island Resort Mactan ushered in the Lunar New Year with a vibrant and meaningful celebration, gathering resort guests, invited visitors, members of the media, and influencers at the Grand Lanai for an afternoon filled with culture, cuisine, and spectacle.
Centered on the theme “A Season of Prosperity,” the celebration honored cherished traditions while embracing the resort’s signature blend of elegance and coastal charm. The highlight of the afternoon was a dynamic Lion Dance performance, brought to life by the rhythmic beating of drums and the resounding clash of cymbals, a time-honored ritual believed to invite good fortune and positive energy into the space.
Resident Manager Nelifer Orbes led the traditional eye-dotting ceremony, a symbolic act that officially “awakens” the lions before their performance. Once in motion, the lions delighted the crowd with their playful interactions, moving gracefully across the Grand Lanai and engaging guests of all ages. Children were especially thrilled as the lions tossed chocolates and lucky coins into the crowd, creating moments of laughter and excitement throughout the venue.
The festivities continued at HWKR at The Kitchen, where a thoughtfully curated feast awaited. Guests enjoyed a generous spread of grilled meats, fresh salads, an assortment of seafood, flavorful vegetables, and the crowd-favorite Peking Duck. Each dish highlighted the bold and exotic flavors of Southeast Asia, offering a culinary experience worthy of the occasion.
Adding to the auspicious atmosphere, the Fruit Corner was adorned with round fruits symbolizing prosperity and abundance for the year ahead, complemented by tropical fruit desserts and traditional Chinese New Year treats.
As evening descended over Mactan’s shoreline, the celebration concluded with a grand fireworks display by the beach. Brilliant bursts of color illuminated the night sky, reflecting over the waters and leaving guests in awe, a fitting finale to a day dedicated to hope, renewal, and prosperity.
