Cebu Governor Calls for Unity, Stresses Focus on Governance Amid 2028 Political Developments

Amid emerging national political discussions following the announcement of presidential plans by Sara Duterte for the 2028 elections, Pamela Baricuatro is urging leaders and constituents to remain focused on public service and provincial development.

“Please allow me to serve the people, as I promised,” Governor Baricuatro said, emphasizing that her administration remains committed to delivering on its mandate rather than engaging in political distractions.

Seven months after assuming office on June 30, 2025, Baricuatro described her first term as unusually challenging. She cited political attacks, persistent opposition, disinformation campaigns, threats to personal safety, and a series of natural calamities that have tested the province’s resilience.

“These are not easy burdens, especially in a first term where expectations are high and the work ahead is immense,” she said. “But I did not run for this position for comfort. I ran to serve.”

Despite the challenges, the provincial government continues to implement structural reforms and long-term development programs aimed at strengthening governance and improving public services across Cebu.

Among the administration’s priority initiatives are:

Streamlining government systems to enhance efficiency and transparency

Expanding healthcare delivery and improving access across municipalities

Strengthening education support and community-based development programs

Advancing environmental protection and climate resilience measures

Accelerating infrastructure projects to boost mobility and economic growth

Crafting forward-looking policies designed to benefit future generations of Cebuanos

Baricuatro underscored that meaningful governance is measured not by political noise but by steady and consistent progress.

“The progress may not always be loud,” she said, “but it is steady, deliberate, and real.”

As national political conversations continue to evolve, the governor reaffirmed that her administration will remain focused on local responsibilities and the welfare of Cebu Province.

“Let politics take its course. My focus remains where it has always been—on the welfare of the Cebuano people,” she added. “My heart, my mind, and all that I am belong to Cebu Province.”

The governor’s statement serves as a call for unity, urging all sectors to prioritize recovery, stability, and inclusive development over partisan discourse as the province moves forward.
