Building on its commitment to a flood-resilient and sustainable Cebu, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), through the Flood Hero Cebu Movement, has deployed the Flood Hero PET Bottle Receptacle Bin to the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Basak Campus.
This initiative follows the successful collection of nearly 100 kilos of PET bottles at previous partner campuses, including the University of the Visayas (UV) and Cebu Technological Sciences – Cebu (CTS). The collected bottles will be repurposed as trash interceptors for rivers, helping prevent plastic waste from flowing into Cebu’s waterways and contributing to urban flooding.

At USJ-R, the receptacle encourages students, faculty, and staff to take an active role in plastic waste segregation and recycling. A Freedom Wall has been set up to invite community members to pledge their commitment to environmental protection, highlighting the importance of collective action in creating a cleaner Cebu.
Following its stay at USJ-R, the receptacle will be rotated to other partner schools across Cebu as part of the program’s ongoing expansion. All collected PET bottles will be handed over to recycling partners, contributing to Cebu’s circular economy and providing practical solutions to mitigate flood risks.

Through these efforts, CCCI and its partners are proving that small, everyday actions can make a significant difference in shaping a cleaner, greener, and flood-free Cebu.
