The University of Cebu (UC) has announced the grant of Augusto W. Go Academic Excellence Award, a merit-based academic distinction to be conferred on the top three senior high school graduates in participating private and public institutions.
The leading three graduates will receive the gold, silver and bronze medals that come with free college scholarships at the end of the academic year, disclosed UC’s director of scholarship Dr. Leonilo B. Oliva, Ph.D., DM-HRM.
Named in honor of Atty. Augusto W. Go, UC founder and chairman, the award affirms the university’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and access to quality higher education for deserving Filipino students.
Under the program, UC will confer the medals to the top three graduates with Highest Honors, else to those with High Honors, ranked according to their specific final academic grades as officially declared during the school graduation rites.
Award recipients will be granted free college education at UC, covering full tuition and miscellaneous fees for any undergraduate program offered by the university, bared Oliva.
In addition, the awardees will receive a ₱1,500 book allowance per semester and a ₱1,000 monthly allowance, subject to retention requirements, he added.
To retain the award and its accompanying educational grant, recipients must:
Maintain a general weighted average equivalent to Cum Laude standing (1.75);
Incur no failing grades;
Obtain no grade lower than 2.0; and
Have no incomplete or dropped subjects throughout their stay at UC.

The Augusto W. Go Academic Excellence Award recognizes students who have demonstrated consistent academic distinction, discipline, and perseverance, reflecting both the values upheld and the academic standards of UC.
“The award carries the name of Atty. Augusto W. Go to remind us that academic excellence is not accidental. It is built on discipline, character, and an unwavering belief in the power of education,” noted Oliva.
“Honoring outstanding graduates through this award keeps that legacy, so that the new generation may uphold the standards the UC chairman had set and to encourage young achievers to pursue excellence with integrity and purpose,” he added.
Founded in Cebu and growing alongside the region’s development, the University of Cebu is recognized today as the largest private university in the Philippines, with multiple campuses and a broad range of academic programs.
Its schools continue to be strengthened by modern and state-of-the-art learning facilities, particularly in Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Nursing, Medicine, Law, and other key disciplines aligned with national and global needs.
Through this award, UC seeks to further strengthen its partnership with secondary schools and affirm the importance of academic excellence as a foundation for personal advancement and nation-building, Oliva noted.
