LAPU-LAPU CITY— Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown, together with Belmont Hotel Mactan and the Mactan Newtown Beach, successfully hosted its much-awaited Swim Out and Bike Out last August 2-3, 2025, drawing in athletes and fitness enthusiasts from across the region in preparation for the Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu happening this August 8–9 at the Mactan Newtown.
Both events were graced by Coach Julian Valencia, renowned triathlon coach and Race Director of Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, who joined participants on the track and shared insights on race readiness and endurance. “There’s no other way but to muscle through it. That’s the only way. If you don’t muscle through it, then you’ll just stay in the same position and you won’t be able to move or run,” he emphasized.
Held in collaboration with Salt + Fin, the Swim Out took place at the Mactan Newtown Beach last Saturday, gathering a total of a hundred swimmers and athletes. The activity served as a familiarization swim, giving participants a preview of the race course.
The following day, the Bike Out also drew a hundred registered cyclists, setting off from the rotunda of the Mactan Newtown Beach, to the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), and back to the Mactan Newtown. The ride provided a safe, organized environment for the athletes to prepare for the bike leg of the Ironman.
Mactan Newtown Beach Operations Director Dominique Romano, in his opening remarks, reminded athletes of the deeper purpose of the race. “You’re clearly prepared for this race. I know you are. Our finish line, basically, is not here in Mactan Newtown. Our finish line is towards our respective homes. So, let’s make sure that we join the race, we join in and we come home to our families safe and sound. Our families who are waiting for us—smiling, waiting to welcome us back home,” he shared.
Closing the activities, Area Director of Sales and Marketing Norielle Roldan, offered words of encouragement to the participants, “To all the athletes who will join the race next week, we wish you all the best. We know you will do well because you are an Ironman.”
These pre-race activities signal the excitement leading up to the main event, the Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu Triathlon, set for August 9 & 10. The event promises a thrilling weekend for triathletes of all levels and sports enthusiasts alike all over the country and the world.
