Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro is calling on women across the province to prioritize their health, highlighting the urgent need for early detection and access to reproductive healthcare services.

Speaking at a Women’s Reproductive Health Symposium held on Wednesday, September 24 at the Capitol Social Hall, Gov. Baricuatro emphasized the critical role women play in society and the importance of not placing their own health on the back burner.

“I have seen how much women carry on their shoulders,” the governor said. “They take care of their families, their work, and their communities. But too often, we put ourselves last. Our health is set aside until it becomes an emergency — and that is something we need to change.”

The event was organized by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government. It was attended by hospital chiefs, POGS member doctors, municipal health officers, nurses, and barangay health workers. 4

The symposium included: A medical lecture on reproductive health, A lay forum for the public, Free cervical and breast cancer screening, HIV testing, Flu and tetanus toxoid vaccination for pregnant women.

Gov. Baricuatro reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving access to healthcare services, especially for women in far-flung areas.

“Behind every case of breast cancer, cervical cancer, and reproductive health issue are stories of women and families struggling. That is why we are strengthening our health systems to ensure early detection, proper treatment, and life-saving information reach every corner of Cebu.”

Dr. Helen B. Albaño, POGS Regional Director, said the event aims to promote a unified approach to women’s health by empowering local healthcare workers and communities with information, services, and support.

“We are here for a unified action in immunization, screening, reproductive health awareness, and the prevention and management of reproductive infections,” Dr. Albaño stated.

POGS is a private organization of obstetrician-gynecologists committed to advancing women’s health through education, ethical practice, and advocacy.
