In the wake of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Northern Cebu last night, Cebu Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro has mobilized a province-wide emergency response, leading the deployment of critical medical supplies and relief goods to the hardest-hit areas.

The Cebu Provincial Government, in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), has already dispatched the initial wave of aid to Bogo City, where Governor Baricuatro has established a joint-operation center to coordinate immediate rescue and relief efforts.

In a heartfelt appeal, Gov. Baricuatro urged the private sector and concerned individuals to contribute hot meals and ready-to-eat food to address the urgent needs of displaced families.

“This is the time for all Cebuanos to come together. The need is great, but our compassion and unity are greater,” said Gov. Baricuatro.

The response has been swift and overwhelming. Volunteers from all walks of life—over 100 medical students, health professionals, and even ordinary citizens—have arrived at the Capitol to assist in repacking, organizing, and delivering relief goods. Some have already been dispatched to affected towns in Northern Cebu to support medical and relief operations on the ground.

Leading the advance team are Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan and Provincial Administrator Ace Durano, who have been coordinating logistics and initial assessments. Gov. Baricuatro is also conducting an aerial inspection over the northern towns alongside officials from the Office of Civil Defense.

To ensure seamless coordination, a temporary command center has been set up at the Capitol in partnership with national agencies, including the Office of the President.

Earlier today, Governor Baricuatro and Dr. Catalan visited the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City, where they comforted families of those injured by the earthquake. Both were visibly emotional as they extended compassion and support to victims.

Despite the devastation, the Governor affirmed that the resilience of the Cebuano people will carry them through.

“This tragedy reminds us of our shared humanity. Even in the darkest of times, the spirit of bayanihan shines through. We will rise, together.”

Governor Baricuatro, who has long been active in humanitarian work through her foundation prior to holding public office, reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that no community is left behind.
