Grab Philippines and motorcycle-taxi platform MOVE IT mobilized employee and driver-partner volunteers to support relief work in northern Cebu after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the region at the end of September.
Volunteers from both platforms distributed care packages containing essential goods such as water and canned goods at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds and helped repack food and care kits bound for affected towns. Vehicles and on-ground teams were also deployed to move priority supplies to staging points designated by the provincial government.
Grab and MOVE IT shared that the effort is part of continuing coordination with local governments for last-mile distribution and volunteer scheduling as the province transitions from immediate relief to early recovery. “Guided by malasakit, Grab and MOVE IT promptly implemented relief operations designed to hasten recovery across the region. We will continue to stand with the local government units in Cebu and every Cebuano in this time of rebuilding,” said CJ Lacsican, Grab Philippines Vice President for Cities.
To extend support beyond on-ground operations, Grab has activated GrabBayanihan: Donate with GrabRewards Points on the app in partnership with Jollibee Group Foundation and McDonald’s Kindness Kitchen. Points redeemed by users will be channeled through these partner organizations to fund meals and essential supplies for families affected by the Cebu earthquake. GrabBayanihan for Cebu is available on the Grab app until October 31.
