In a strong show of support for earthquake-stricken communities, Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro has released a total of ₱158 million in financial assistance to 12 local government units (LGUs) in northern Cebu that were heavily affected by the recent magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

The aid was officially distributed last October 10, 2025, during a check turnover held outside the Governor’s entrance at the Capitol, following a precautionary evacuation prompted by the magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Davao Oriental, which was also felt in Cebu.

LGUs Receiving Financial Aid:

City of Bogo – ₱15 million

Municipalities of Bantayan, Borbon, Catmon, Daanbantayan, Madridejos, Medellin, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Sogod, Tabogon, and Tabuelan – ₱13 million each

In addition to the LGU assistance, Governor Baricuatro has approved an additional ₱32 million to fund ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations, surpassing the ₱26 million request made by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

Breakdown of ₱32M Relief Allocation:

₱5 million – Vice Governor Glenn Soco

₱3 million each – PB Members Tining Martinez (Bogo City), Kerie Shimura (4th District), Nelson Mondigo (4th District)

₱2 million each – PB Members Red Duterte and Mike Villamor (5th District)

₱1 million each – All other Provincial Board Members

The allocation aims to empower each district representative and barangay alliance to carry out localized and responsive aid delivery to families affected by the quake.

“We are ensuring that no LGU is left behind. The people of northern Cebu can rest assured that the Provincial Government is here to support them through every stage of recovery,” said Governor Baricuatro.

The Provincial Government continues to coordinate with LGUs, national agencies, and partner organizations to speed up the delivery of assistance and rehabilitation programs.

This swift response underscores Governor Baricuatro’s commitment to efficient disaster response and community rebuilding efforts, placing a premium on timely, needs-based interventions for affected Cebuanos. (Photos: Cebu Province)
