Every child deserves a chance to grow.

In Cebu City, Philippines, there are 2,888 children that are considered malnourished, according to the Operation Timbang Plus 2022 Report of the Cebu City Nutrition Council.

Proper nutrition is the foundation for a child’s growth. Unfortunately, children living in poverty have less access to healthy food and opportunities. This reality leaves poor children at a disadvantage for success later in life.

In response to the growing concern of malnourished children in Cebu City, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., through its Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund (RAFI DACF) and the Cebu City Nutrition Network (CCNN), launched the “A Chance to Grow” campaign on July 6, 2022. The campaign is a public fundraising campaign to support the supplemental feeding of malnourished children in Cebu City.

This campaign, in partnership with the Cebu City Nutrition Council, aims to provide children a chance to grow and build a foundation for a healthy and productive life. Through this, it hopes to raise Php. 1,000,000 to support the supplemental feeding of 600 children aged 0 to five years old in Cebu City.

“Nalipay ko aning atong gihimong programa na “A Chance to Grow”. (…) Matod pa sa among grupo before, we are igniting spaces of hope. When we give them [the children] food, it is not only food that we give them – it is hope; and hope is very important. (…) We cannot just stay here and watch these children waste away their lives and their future. Let’s do something,” Chairman of the Cebu City Nutrition Council, Ronald Diola expressed.

Jenny Lea Menchavez, Junior Executive Director of RAFI DACF shared how the first five years of a child’s life is critical to a child’s overall development and posed a challenge for every individual to help champion children in a way that they can.

“This is our chance to give the children a chance to grow. We at the Cebu City Nutrition Network and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. – Dolores Aboitiz Children’s Fund, invite you–the private organizations, and individuals, to help the Cebu City Government fight malnutrition because this is not the government’s fight alone. This is our fight. We need to fight for our children and give them a chance to grow,” she said.
