Indian Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Shambu S. Kumaran, held a press briefing with members of local media to discuss prospective commercial collaborations and investment opportunities in the province at Plaza Del Norte, Sunday, March 26.

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN), through the initiative of Gov. Matthew Marcos-Manotoc, aims to create an avenue for local businesses to thrive while showcasing promising opportunity available for investment by partnering with the Government of India.

The event was participated by Indian stakeholders, namely business leaders from pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, automobile, agro-chemicals, irrigation, Information Technology-Business Process Management, and renewable energy among others.

“The businesses of both countries are beginning to look at each other with greater interest [and] we in the government and in the embassy, are also very keenly trying to  create greater B2B (Business-to-Business) interactions,” Ambassador Kumaran said.

In order to demonstrate the dynamism of the Indian Economy and Indian Businesses to Filipino counterparts, Ambassador Kumaran expressed that the main problem both countries confront is the lack of awareness of the potential and strength of the other.

With the PGIN’s constant pursuit to fortify commercial ties, Filipino-owned businesses from Ilocos Norte were invited to attend the “India Business Roadshow” which was organized by the Embassy of India in partnership with PGIN. —Elen June M.
