Slower economic growth, weaker investment and continuing global uncertainty are giving Philippine businesses more reasons to watch what is happening beyond their own markets.
This year, the Philippine economy grew 2.3% in the second quarter, the weakest quarterly growth since 2021.
Against this backdrop, East Asia Business Council chair Jay Yuvallos is inviting members of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philexport Cebu, and other Cebu business organizations to attend the two September conferences. These two events are focused on the next shifts in the global and East Asian business landscape.
The 24th MAP International CEO Conference, themed “In the Age of Flux: Next Inflection Points,” will be held on September 8. The conference will bring together business executives, policymakers and innovators to discuss the changes affecting businesses and economies.
On September 9, the EABC will hold its first summit, “Business in the RCEP Economy: Competing, Connecting and Scaling Across East Asia.” Both events will be held at ShangriLa The Fort.
The summit will look at how businesses can make the most of opportunities under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and expand their presence in East Asia.
The two events will also give Cebu business leaders a chance to hear from regional and global speakers and meet potential business contacts.
Yuvallos encouraged the Cebu business sector to attend the conferences and use the discussions to assess how their businesses can respond to changes in the regional economy.
“Every generation of leaders faces defining moments when familiarity gives way to the unfamiliar, when assumptions are challenged, and when the decisions made today shape the opportunities of tomorrow,”according to MAP.
Changes in technology, geopolitics, demographics and consumer behavior are already affecting how companies invest, hire, source products and reach customers.
For Cebu companies, understanding these changes will be critical as competition in the region grows.
The discussions will give business leaders a chance to hear different perspectives on these changes and consider how they can respond.
For the Cebu business sector, the conferences offer a chance to hear directly from business and policy leaders and learn how to compete, connect and scale across East Asia.
