The Office of Senator Imee R. Marcos, led by Political Officer Jeff Go and IMEElunggay Chairperson Josephine Luym, turned over 100 malunggay seedlings, 100 NUTRIBUNS, Dutchmill drinks and Graham biscuits to Brgy. Paknaan, Mandaue City on March 29.
The initiative is part of the senatorβs #IMEElunggay project which aims to promote malunggay as a βsuper foodβ to combat malnutrition among children and help strengthen the immune system of Filipinos of all ages.
βAs we wait for the governmentβs mass vaccination program to accelerate, one simple but neglected solution to strengthen our resistance to Covid-19 and other diseases is eating the highly nutritious moringa oleifera, which we all know as malunggay,β Marcos said.
Marcos added that the new version of the Nutribun has come a long way since it was conceived in the 70βs, now fortified with malunggay as an ingredient.
Senator Marcos also donated blood pressure monitors, blood sugar testing machines and medicines to Brgy. Paknaan residents, in line with her personal advocacy of helping citizens suffering from hypertension and heart problems.
βHeart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the country. Pandemic or no pandemic, letβs not neglect our heart patients,β Marcos urged.
The ceremonial turnover of donations was presided by Barangay Captain Malaquias Socco and United Women of Paknaan (UWOP) President Marilou S. Mag-isa.
